The Governing Body is made up of people from all walks of life including parents, church members, school staff and people from the local community. The Governing Body’s role is to provide strategic leadership for the school, as well as robust accountability, oversight and assurance for educational and financial performance. We perform these functions through a close working relationship with the school’s Head and Senior Leadership Team. We work together to become involved in all areas of school life and are accountable to parents for the decisions we make. The Governing Board are always keen to hear from parents and can be contacted via the school office.
At least one Governor visits school every month to monitor and report on themes such as teaching, standards, accounts and safeguarding. We meet twice every term to revise policies, decide on staffing and budgets, and examine the school’s results data. That enables us to maintain a caring, safe and happy school community, with ambitious standards, and where everyone is encouraged and helped to reach their full potential. It is an extremely rewarding role in which our priority, the pupils, are always put to the fore.
Governor fund
St Francis CE Primary is a Voluntary Aided School. This means the Winchester Diocese (Church of England) owns the school buildings, and instead of the Local Authority or Council paying for building works, the school's governors are responsible for covering the costs of the majority of building repairs and improvements.
The school receives some government funding for this purpose, which has to be held by the school's governors in a designated account separate from the main school budget. This money cannot be spent on staffing or small projects. Governors are required to have a separate fund to support these costs and cannot spend this funding without paying 10% of the cost.
The Governors’ Fund has to pay 10% towards all works carried out on school buildings which uses our capital funding. This means, for example, that if the school wanted to spend £20,000 on building work the Governors' Fund would need to contribute £2000.
There needs to be enough money in the Fund to ensure necessary improvements to the school can be made as required, or when lucky enough to secure extra funding from other sources. There also needs to be a contingency fund for any unforeseen or emergency maintenance.
This fundraising page is intended to collect donations towards the Governors' Fund. So that the school can undertake necessary works and use the capital funding it is allocated. For every £10 raised the school can access £90 of funding. Money raised will be spent on renovation and improvement projects. It will not be spent on staffing or core running costs.
Parents/carers can also donate via Scopay. If you would like to make a regular donation, please contact the school office to arrange.
