Homework

KEY STAGE 2

How can I support my child?

Homework is given to the children to support the curriculum being delivered in class.
Establish a time for homework by sharing the work and overseeing the activity. Encourage your child and value the effort made.

How long should the homework take?

Children in Years 3 and 4 should spend approximately 20 minutes per night.
Children in Years 5 and 6 should spend approximately 30 minutes per night.

What do I do if the activity is taking too long or causing difficulties?

Stop the activity and write a comment in the homework diary.

How do I know what my child needs to do?

In Years 3 and 4 the pattern of homework is as follows:

Monday Spelling/English

Tuesday Reading

Wednesday Maths

Thursday Reading

Friday Mental Maths

Years 5 and 6 are expected to read every evening for approximately 20 minutes. In addition they have two set homeworks each week. These are set on a Monday for the following Thursday and on a Thursday for the following Monday.

What is the purpose of the homework and reading diary?

The homework and reading diary acts as a means of communication between home and school. Please sign the diary when a homework has been completed and make comments as appropriate. The reading diary at the back of this book should be completed as an ongoing record. The diary is looked at regularly by the class teacher.
